The modern magazine cover has a mixture of both drawn work and photography as one, whereas the old-fashioned one is all drawn. You can even see from the way it is drawn the old-fashioned cover was to make it as realistic as possible, the modern has more of a cartoon, comic-like feel. The modern also has more of a brighter, eye-catching visual and the old-fashioned has that feel as well, although the chosen colors are more sophisticated or toned down.
